Subject-matter searching for state court docket sheets

Here’s a research tip for the holiday weekend:  You can search state court docket sheets by “Nature of Suit” (NOS) on Courtlink, Court Express and Westlaw.    Previously, NOS searching was available only for Federal courts, where plaintiffs choose a NOS code when they file their complaints.    Courtlink, Court Express and Westlaw are apparently adding NOSs to state court dockets to improve searching and help generate more meaningful litigation reports.

{Thanks to Sara Witman, Research Librarian at Gordon, Feinblatt, Rothman, Hoffberger and Hollander for pointing out the NOS searching on Courtlink and Court Express.}
