Companies looking to organize as lending institutions in New York must hire a private investigator to conduct background checks on their officers. Not many PI firms have experience with this work, but you can get a list of firm who do by calling the New York Department of Financial Services. I added the phone number to the “Department of Financial Services” section of the New York State – Executive Branch – Agencies and Offices entry.
Call the DFS (212-709-1594) to get a list of PI firms that have completed these reports in the past.
