Beyond the Bill File: Other sources for Maryland legislative intent
The search for the legislative intent behind a Maryland bill generally doesn’t go beyond getting a copy of the Bill File. But, if you do need to go further, I added a list of other places to check to the Legislative History section of the Maryland – … Continue reading
New ILL section in the LOC entry
I added a section on “Interlibrary Loans” to the Library of Congress entry. It’s a little tricky to borrow from the LOC, so I hope this will help folks who haven’t done it yet. Thanks to Andrew Hackett at NCR-National Corporate … Continue reading
Update to the Bermuda entry
Karen Skiffington wrote in with some corrections for the Bermuda entry, which I edited in right away. Karen is starting up a Bermuda Law Journal, which will provide legal news and analysis, recent judicial opinions and new legislation. I added a link … Continue reading
American Community Survey replaces “The Long Form”
As of 2010, the Decennial Census is limited to a ”short form” designed to count the population. The more detailed information from the old “long form” is being collected each year in the American Community Survey, which is also compiled by the Census Bureau. … Continue reading
Specialized tools for researching SEC Staff Comment Letters
I recently looked at Comment Checker and Company IQ-SEC Comment Letters, two new systems for finding and comparing clauses in SEC Staff Comment Letters. I haven’t used either in the line of duty, but they are useful tools, so I added them … Continue reading
Researching Hospitals – quality and safety data
Many state and city health departments are posting quality and safety data on local hospitals, so I added a mention of those agency sites in the Hospitals entry as places to check when doing research on hospitals.
Regulatory Histories – Take #2
I rewrote the Regulatory Histories section of the Federal Regulations entry so it’s a little more upbeat.
New section on Regulatory Histories
I know the notion that there are Federal “regulatory histories” comparable to Federal “legislative histories” is almost a myth, but attorneys do ask for them, so I added a nascent Regulatory History section to the end of the Federal Regulations entry.
Coffee Law
I added The Little Book of Coffee Law (ABA, 2010) to the Coffee entry.
Researching Nonprofit Corporation Laws
Many states base all or some of their nonprofit corporation laws on the ABA’s Revised Model Nonprofit Corporation Act. If you can’t find much discussion of a section in your state’s nonprofit corporation law, you may be able to find … Continue reading
